Scott W. Smith, RCDD, TECH, CT
BICSI Certified trainer or Master Instructor Since 1996
Scott is currently celebrating over 35 years in the ICT industry. For the past 19 years, Scott’s primary responsibilities were as a Master Instructor contracting to BICSI, when not actively installing and consulting through his own company, Teletech Consulting LLC. Scott was first introduced to BICSI when he earned his Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD) Credential in 1993. After serving in the U.S. Coast guard as a Telephone Technician for over 20 years, Scott was offered a position to instruct for BICSI when he transitioned from the Coast Guard in 1996. Scott helped develop the original installation program and its various levels of instruction. He developed all the hands on tests, proctoring guidelines and has contributed to every installation manual, workbook and course revision to date. Scott has also contributed to the updating of the BICSI Telecommunications Distribution Methods Manual and several distribution design course development projects. Scott was the subject matter expert for the latest, 13th edition TDMM course development process for DD102.
Scott has instructed all 4 levels of BICSI’s installation program and the RCDD design program consisting of installation courses IN101, IN225, IN250 and TE350 as well as the design courses DD100, DD102 and DD200. Scott developed the BICSI train the trainer, (T3) program for Authorized Training Facilities (ATFs) and facilitated the teaching of new trainers over a two week course on how to instruct and administer the installation program at their licensed sites.
Scott has always enjoyed the interaction with those who attend his presentations. He feels each class is a collaboration where he is always learning something new in the process of helping others connect to new technologies and ideas. While the course material has the potential for being dry at times, Scott feels you can’t maximize your learning unless you are having fun. He tries to keep his classes engaged through student participation, case studies and sharing pertinent experiences from years working in the field.
When Scott is not working he enjoys rock climbing, high altitude sky diving, extreme tree climbing, deep sea scuba diving, off shore cigarette boat racing, and kayaking the Grand Canyon. Mind you he has never done any of these things, but he definitely takes joy knowing someone is out there and he is not.
