Course Details
Course Objective
Enable the student to develop the skill sets needed to test and troubleshoot both multimode and singlemode optical fiber cabling systems. Students will be instructed in the proper testing of multimode and singlemode installations, and how to troubleshoot defective optical fiber links. The course will reference national standards as they relate and impact the student’s optical fiber systems. At the course’s conclusion, the student should have a good understanding of what makes for a quality installation and be able to provide specific feedback on the quality of an installed optical fiber infrastructure. Prerequisites Basic experience with optical fiber cabling, connectors and splicing will be helpful. Course Description Your course will be presented by our instructors who have decades of design and installation experience. Not only are they extremely proficient as instructors, but they bring real world experience that makes the material interesting and easier to comprehend. ICTTG-1271 is an intensive 2-day course that focuses on testing a structured optical fiber cabling system. The student will apply their knowledge in comprehensive labs that were developed to reinforce the material and build confidence applying their new testing skills to appropriate lab scenarios. The curriculum is designed to take students with some optical fiber installation experience and teach them the proper methods of testing and troubleshooting optical fiber infrastructures. They will be provided with a comprehensive workbook that they will keep as their reference guide. The workbook will introduce the information in easily digestible modules that will guide the student from the basics through the more advanced testing and troubleshooting techniques. The course is based on the ANSI Telecommunication Standards and best practices, hardware and test equipment manufacturer’s instructions, as well as other documents as they pertain to specific modules of instruction. The course will instruct the student how to select the appropriate test equipment and its use in determining optical fiber cable performance against industry standard values. Students will quickly realize there is much more to testing an optical fiber installation than seeing if it passes light from one end to the other. The comprehensive testing, troubleshooting and quality of installation modules will allow the student to assure that the optical fiber cable installations were installed in a workman like manner and will reliably support their equipment connectivity. Course Modules 1. Introductions and course overview 2. Codes, standards, and regulations: Introduction to those documents the installer will use most frequently and be held accountable for utilizing. 3. Optical Fiber Transmission: Review the performance and fire ratings of various cables. Understanding the limitations of various media and the importance of ensuring a proper installation. 4. Structured cabling systems
5. Media and Connectors
6. Testing Optical Fiber Cables: Understanding each test and how it relates to ensuring the media installed will function as expected for your optical fiber installations.
7. QA/QC: Inspecting the work and exceeding the customers’ expectations. Students will review pictures of actual installations and notate their critique of the installation and then each scenario will be discussed to get a group consensus. |
