Course Objective
Enable the student to develop the skill sets needed to reference the material in the various codes and standards utilized to perform their job. Memorizing all the material is not as important as being aware of its existence and knowing which book, manual, chapter, article the information can be found in. At the conclusion of the course the students will understand the difference between a code and a standard and who enforces each. They will know who develops each document and why. They will have their class workbook to assist them once they leave the class to identify where various material is located. Prerequisites None, but basic telecommunications experience a plus. Course Description Your course will be presented by our instructors each with decades of design and installation experience. Not only are they extremely proficient as instructors, but they bring real world experience that makes the material interesting and easier to comprehend. ICTTG-4230 is an intensive 2-day course that focuses on the codes and standards that govern the ICT industry. The student will participate in discussions designed to bring an understanding of the intent of the rules found throughout the codes and standards, so they can apply the rules in the work-place. The curriculum is designed to take students with minimal installation or telecommunication experience and provide them with a comprehensive workbook that they will keep as their reference guide. The workbook will introduce the information in easily digestible modules that will guide the student from the basics through the more advanced concepts of design and installation. The course is primarily based on National Code (NEC) requirements, and the ANSI Telecommunication Standards, while touching on various hardware manufacturer’s instructions, as well as other documents as they pertain to specific modules of instruction. The course will instruct the student how to reference the appropriate code or standard. Students will quickly realize there is much more to designing a telecommunications’ infrastructure than running some cable between rooms. Students will learn where the rules come from requiring plenum and riser rated cables, minimum cable bend radii, maximum amount of copper pair untwist, maximum cable lengths, bonding and grounding, testing copper and optical fiber installations, why they have to firestop and in addition to other pertinent items of concern to the ICT individual.
